Jim Lake brings his more than 30 years of proven Washington executive leadership experience in designing, managing and executing successful strategic communication and public affairs initiatives to Nahigian Strategies where he serves as Principal. Jim’s political campaign experience, coupled with his experience in both the private and public sectors, allows him to provide insightful counsel for our clients.
Jim began his distinguished career coming up through the political ranks. His extensive political and campaign experience comes from serving as a senior team member on several national presidential campaigns, four National political conventions and at The White House.
As a high-ranking U.S. government official serving for eight years through the Reagan and Bush Administrations at the U.S. Department of Commerce, International Trade Administration, Jim honed his skills working in the government but, more importantly, how to get the government to work for you. His tenure included serving as the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary and Acting Assistant Secretary for Trade Development in the International Trade Administration.
Jim has also worked for some of the worlds largest public relations firms, handling domestic and international clients from around the globe. While serving as the Chairman of the U.S. Public Affairs Practice at Burson-Marsteller, Jim grew a government practice area that managed some of the largest public education campaigns in the Federal government. For example, he served as Senior Global Account Lead for the practice’s most notable client – The Bureau of Engraving and Printing and its “New Color of Money” public education program introducing the new colored currency around the world. While a Senior Vice President at Cohn & Wolf, Jim served as the public outreach lead for the very successful Census 2000 effort where the Bureau used paid media and outreach for the first time in history to increase census mail-back rates.
Jim is the recipient of numerous industry awards for his work on behalf of his clients and was awarded the coveted PR News, PR People Award for Brand Manager of the Year. A native Californian, Jim holds a B.A. in Economics from California State University, Fullerton.
