FORT GORDON, GA (WFXG) –Georgia’s first lady, Sandra Deal, made a visit to the CSRA Thursday to speak to kids about her cabinet’s initiative to children kids safe this summer while they swim.

It’s that time of the year where the heat is rising, which means a lot of people will be heading to the beach, pool or lake to cool off. But the first lady said while you’re cooling off, make sure you do it safely.

“We just wanted to kind of point out to families how important being safe while swimming is,” Deal said.

That’s why Deal decided to make a stop at Fort Gordon to share a book about the importance of water safety. The book, The Polar Bear Who Couldn’t, Wouldn’t Swim, is a book dedicated to Zachary Cohn who passed away in 2007 from a drain entrapment in a backyard pool.
